ORTHODONTICS - CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT PROCEDURE
Clear aligners are the alternative to traditional braces for straightening the teeth. The best way to find out if clear aligners are right for you is to schedule a consultation with your orthodontist.
Invisalign is the most advanced clear aligner system which is used to straighten crooked or crowded teeth, forwardly positioned teeth, closure of spaces in between teeth, and overbites. This treatment involves wearing clear, removable thermoformed trays that are custom designed for each and every patient making Invisalign a less noticeable and comfortable alternative to metal braces.
Initially, before the start of the treatment, an intraoral scan of the teeth and supporting structures is taken and the simulated 3D treatment outcome is shown to the patient. Once the patient is satisfied with the simulated treatment outcome, the scan is sent for a virtual clincheck treatment plan which shows a step by step procedure of how the teeth are going to be moved and the changes after each aligner use.
The number of aligners and the duration of clear aligner treatment is decided based on the severity of the malocclusion. The aligners will gradually cause the teeth to shift their position slightly over a period of 2 weeks. A new set of aligners are to be used after 2 weeks that will move the teeth a little more. The teeth will straighten into their proper positions as the treatment progresses over the following weeks and months.
